Empty Bowls and Green Eggs and CAM coming up Sunday March 6

I have a busy week coming up. Signing my fabrication contract for the Mulberry and Millrace bridges, and this Sunday, March 6 the SA Potters Guild is holding our 11th Annual Empty Bowls charity benefit for SAMMinistries/Haven for Hope at the Southwest School of Art. If you are interested, please click on the links for more info.

Once that is over, in the afternoon, I am having a fun show with my RockPaperScissors Collective (Georgie Cunningham, Paula Cox, and Jane Bishop) buds over at ArtSA Gallery. We are holding a brunch reception for our show titled: Green Eggs and CAM! Reception is from 1-4 (Sunday, March 6 would love it if my readers could come!)

Stay busy!

Well, I'm in!

The new studio at Blanco Road is nearing completion and I have begun work on some pots. With a backsplash for a private home, wall mural, numerous pottery orders, and a huge public art project coming up, it could not happen at a better time!  Below are pics of some of the first ones.
It is surprisingly difficult to begin work in a new space; new systems need to be worked out for all the many processes of making. One new solution I am thrilled to report is working out great is my new tool for throwing....

My wheel is now on a "scissor lift hand truck" with locking casters. For years (since lumbar disc surgery) I have been throwing standing up, but this has not been a perfect solution since a small bowl is much shorter than a large 24" cylinder. Much of the time, I was still stooped over a bit, or needed to stand on a cinder block in order to reach all the way into larger work. Now, all I need to do is pump it up with my foot, or slowly let it down with the hand lever. My wheel now adjusts to the work, instead of me adjusting! That only took 15 years to figure out!

Here are a few more pics of my new tables I built and storage carts for all my glaze chemicals (that is on the to do list for organizing today!)

Stay Warm!
